Harry Hall spent 11 years traveling the country, researching an obscure group of a handful of women athletic pioneers who, 150 years ago, made their own rules and set standards that even today, seem impossible. Although around only a few years, the pedestriennes contributed to the modern sports model, the revival of the Olympic Games, and the suffragist movement.
This was the first book on these athletes, the late 19th century women endurance walkers. The result was, The Pedestriennes, America’s Forgotten Superstars, winner of three national writing awards. Writers Digest calls it, “…a masterpiece of American history.” Harry is a long-time distance runner and spent much of his writing career covering amateur and professional sports. The lessons Harry learned from these women’s courage and spirit changed his life…and it can change yours.
